Sourcing medical oxygen concentrators from China can save you 30%–50% on unit costs — if you find the right partner. Get it wrong, and you’re looking at delayed shipments, missing certifications, or worse: products that fail in the field.
We’ve been manufacturing oxygen concentrators since 2008. Over the years, we’ve seen too many buyers learn these lessons the hard way. This guide covers the three most common mistakes.
Mistake #1: Chasing the Lowest Price (Without Checking the Factory)
It’s tempting. You search Alibaba, sort by price, and find a 5L concentrator for $50 less per unit than every other supplier. You place a trial order. Four weeks later, the units arrive — no FDA paperwork, inconsistent flow rates, and packaging that wouldn’t survive a domestic shipment, let alone cross-border logistics.
What goes wrong: Low-price factories often cut costs on:
- Compressor quality — the single most expensive component. Cheap compressors fail within months.
- Sieve beds — substandard zeolite means oxygen purity drops below 90% (the medical threshold) after 1,000 hours instead of 10,000+.
- Quality control — no aging tests, no batch traceability, no ISO 13485 documentation.
How to avoid it: Ask for three things before discussing price:
- Factory video tour — look for organized production lines, dust-free assembly areas, and aging-test stations. A factory under 5,000 m² producing “50+ models” is a red flag.
- Batch QC records — a legitimate manufacturer can show you in-line testing data for flow rate, purity, and noise for any recent production batch.
- Certification certificates with validity dates — FDA 510(k) clearance, CE marking (MDR compliant), and ISO 13485 should all be current. Ask for the certificate numbers and verify them.

Mistake #2: Trusting a CE Logo Without Confirming the Scope
A CE mark on a product photo means nothing by itself. Many suppliers show a CE certificate that covers only the power adapter, or a self-declaration for Class I devices (which doesn’t apply to active medical devices like oxygen concentrators).
Red flags:
- “CE certified” but no Notified Body number (four digits)
- FDA “registered” (anyone can register an establishment) vs. FDA cleared (requires a 510(k) submission)
- ISO 13485 certificate issued by an unaccredited body

Mistake #3: Ordering Without an On-Site Audit (or a Reliable Proxy)
Even a factory with real certifications can have gaps between paperwork and practice. We’ve heard from buyers who visited a “certified” factory and found:
- The production line in the photos was a separate facility from where their order was being made
- “In-house” sieve beds were actually purchased from a third party with no traceability
- The QC lab was locked and the “technician” was unavailable
